Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk officially revealed

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk officially revealed

Topping its last performance SUV, the 475-horsepower Grand Cherokee SRT, there's now a 707-horsepower, Hellcat-powered, Grand Cherokee Trackhawk that comes ready to upset sports auto drivers at red lights everywhere.

Hold on to your hats, because Jeep has revealed what it claims will be the world's quickest and most powerful production SUV: the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The 2.4tonne mammoth can haul up to 3,266kg thanks to its reworked eight-speed transmission which has been made more robust to handle the increased torque over the already bonkers SRT. Meanwhile, Track reduces the shift times between each gear and torque split is at 30:70. Next week, everyone will get an opportunity to see the Trackhawk at New York Motor Show before it arrives in showrooms at the end of the year.

All of us fearing a Ferris Bueller's Day Off situation at the valet will be relieved to know that the Trackhawk includes a valet mode which slashes engine power, locks out first gear, prevents manual gear changes, disables launch control and sets the stability control system to maximum. The front axle benefits from six-piston calipers with 15.75-inch discs while the rear receives four-piston calipers with smaller 13.78-inch rotors.

The Trawkhawk also gets five driving modes: Automatic, Sport, Track, Tow, and Snow, and a custom mode. It also features a launch control system that optimises performance by coordinating the engine, transmission, driveline and suspension for consistent take-offs and straight-line acceleration.

Up until now, the Bentley Bentayga was the world's most powerful SUV with its W12 engine pushing 600 hp and getting the luxury SUV to 60 miles per hour in 4.0 seconds, a full half-second slower than the new Trackhawk and for a lot more money. Based on the premium commanded by the Dodge Hellcats, the Trackhawk will likely start over $80,000. The standard wheels are 20-inch items, but there's a forged aluminium option that saves 5.4 kg.

Rounding it all up are the quad exhaust tips finished in Black Chrome and a unique rear valence painted in Gloss Black. Replacing the foglights are large air intakes which allow for better airflow and cooling.

On the standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are exclusive Trackhawk Performance Pages to monitor and record various performance parameters.

Inside, you'll find Nappa and suede seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel with paddle shifters, Light Black Chrome finishes and carbon fibre spears, plus a seven-inch driver information display instrument cluster with tacho in the middle and a 320 km/h speedometer.
