Egypt president in Saudi Arabia to reaffirm ties

As the king's son, the prince has a direct line to the Saudi monarch. After that, the Kingdom suspended oil supplies from Aramco, a state-owned company headed by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, to Egypt for three months without stating clear reasons. The tension between the two countries started in the UN Security Council when Egypt had voted in favour of two rival resolutions regarding peace in Syria.

The appointment is aimed at strengthening of bilateral ties with Washington under President Donald Trump administration.

Prince Khalid, the new ambassador in Washington, is a fighter pilot who has trained in the USA and carried out air strikes against the so-called Islamic State (IS) group in Syria.

The army is helping to defend Saudi Arabia's southern border from rebel incursions but analysts say that, in Yemen itself, coalition troops from the United Arab Emirates have the most prominence in ground operations being conducted with local forces.

The first resolution was filed by France and backed by Saudi Arabia and the second one was filed by Russian Federation.
