Bulldogs, Gamecocks to clash in all-SEC championship game

Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs guard Morgan William, right, is mobbed by guards Blair Schaefer (1) and Dominique Dillingham (00) after making the game-winning basket in overtime against the CT in an NCAA college basketbal game in the semifinals of the women's Final Four at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Friday, March 31, 2017.

The Huskies had won an NCAA-record 111 consecutive games heading into Friday's game, and were heavy favorites to win a fifth consecutive national championship. "Morgan William is playing some of the best basketball I've ever seen played in a player".

"They are going to remember that play because they have never been in that situation", UConn coach Geno Auriemma said of those looking to blame Chong for the loss. The Huskies didn't play efficiently in the second half which gave the Bulldogs a chance to make continuous shots. "I'm still in shock". After Samuelson made the free throws, the Huskies had the ball with a chance to take the last shot. "I got in the space, I jumped up, I made the shot".

Mississippi State led 64-62 before a flagrant foul call on Bulldogs guard Dominique Dillingham allowed Connecticut's Katie Lou Samuelson to knot the score from the free throw line with 26.6 seconds left in overtime.

Afterwards, UConn coach talked about the Huskies' run, which started 865 days before when the Huskies lost to Stanford in overtime on November 17, 2014. "For us to come off beating a great team, and not finishing it off, it'd be tough", Williams said.

The Bulldogs, with four seniors and four juniors, will play SC on Sunday night in an all-SEC matchup for the national title Sunday night. Last season, Uconn Women S Basketball team was most favorite when they brought down Bulldogs by a 60 points win which was a historical win indeed but this time, lucky ones were the Bulldogs who managed to get to the National finals at Sunday.

"I don't have to play them 100 times".

"What an unbelievable gutsy performance that no one in the country, including all of y'all, probably thought could happen, and that's OK", Schaefer said.

Bilic: I prefer face-to-face talks with Hammers chiefs rather than through media
He is bubbly around the place and wants to stay in a positive mood and, as players, that's what we want. We can climb up a few places if we win games, we can go a few places down if we don't win games.

Now the Bulldogs are one win away from one of their own after perhaps the biggest upset in women's basketball history.

"My teammates are just so happy and proud of me".

UConn rallied from a 16-point deficit, its biggest during its NCAA record streak, to take a 59-56 lead in the fourth quarter. She rocked the court with 41 points and 7 assists and the game ended in a 94-85 overtime win for the Bulldogs. "Maybe we were ready for everything else, but maybe we're just not mature enough for this", Auriemma said.

UConn will return to campus from the Final Four on Sunday for the first time in five years without a national championship trophy.

Vivians had 19 points, William had 13, Richardson had 12 and McCowan finished with 10 for the Bulldogs (34-4).

"It was personal. We had to prove we're a much better team than a year ago", said Victoria Vivians, who led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Gabby Williams, who made the second team, and Kia Nurse will be seniors.

Mississippi State felt the pressure when UConn rallied back with a 12-0 run in the first half.

So who's the most popular Bulldog at the moment?
