Blackhawks to make major changes after first round sweep

Blackhawks to make major changes after first round sweep

On the verge of one of the biggest first round upsets in Stanley Cup Playoffs history, the Predators left no doubt by beating the Blackhawks 4-1 Thursday in game four to complete the series sweep. The Predators won 4-1, sweeping the series.

Coach Joel Quennville will be back for the 2017-18 season. St. Louis coach Mike Yeo said he is well aware of the Blues' next challenge. Standing here April 22nd is not the way we expected our season to end.

"I'll start off here by saying I'm completely, completely disappointed", Bowman said. We did not come even close to reaching the standard that we'e set over the years here, and that's unacceptable. Chicago's second straight first-round exit followed a regular season in which the Blackhawks went 50-23-9 and recorded 109 points, the second-highest total in franchise history. When the playoffs started, they were considered one of the favorites to make it to the Stanley Cup. After being swept by Nashville, however, Bowman promised that every part of the organization was on the table except for head coach, Joel Quenneville, who will return next year.Blackhawks players and fans alike appreciated the message after being the first number one seed to be swept from the playoffs in the first round since 1994 when the National Hockey League adopted the best of seven first round playoff format.

"With Toewser, I think at the end of the day it's mind over matter", Tootoo said. "It was pretty embarrassing".

It was the third time in the four games in this series the Preds have drawn first blood, an area they struggled throughout the regular season.

For a franchise used to postseason success, it was a staggering blow.

"They're real hot, they're rested, watching us battle it out", said Blues forward Scottie Upshall, who was drafted by the Predators with the sixth pick overall in 2002 and played parts of four seasons there.

Captain Jonathan Toews made it sound like a wake-up call for him.

Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- Who Ya Got?

Yes, Bowman hit all the right notes in his opening comments at the United Center on Saturday morning. Way too much for the slumping Chicago Blackhawks.

The NBA playoffs began this weekend for all 16 teams that have the same common goal in mind, an NBA championship.

Game 4 was scoreless midway through the second period when Ryan Johansen won a faceoff against Marcus Kruger and passed to Ryan Ellis, who sent it to Josi on his right. "Now we've got a couple more days off to heal up a little bit and get ready for Nashville".

Like Toews, Bowman is heading into one of his most intriguing offseasons since he was promoted to general manager in 2009. The two teams had previously met up in 2015, where they had a six game series that opened with a double-overtime game and included a triple-overtime game.

He's done a brilliant job navigating a team with a salary cap that's top-heavy and has found numerous diamonds in the rough to keep the ship afloat, but at some point, Bowman's luck had to run out. Beyond that, Bowman said in somber and exasperated tones that he would not rule making sweeping changes to next season's roster if that was what an internal review of the season concluded.

"We didn't play the game that's supposed to be played in the playoffs", winger Artemi Panarin said through an interpreter. Their main priority will likely be getting Richard Panik locked up, as he's their most important restricted free agent.

Change will be hard for Bowman, given that many of his players are locked into lengthy contracts.

Meanwhile, I'll just go have a rack of Jack's ribs, cold glass of ice tea, and "mosey" on over to the Bridgestone and watch my team KICK ICE!
