Monaco's Jardim hails win: 'Against English teams we have good results'

Monaco's Jardim hails win: 'Against English teams we have good results'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he has the backing of club chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak despite his side's Champions League exit to Monaco in the round-of-16.

The two sides tied at 6-6 on aggregate, but Monaco made it into the last eight on away goals, the second time this has happened in the past three seasons.

A second-half improvement was rewarded with Leroy Sane's goal, which edged City ahead overall with 19 minutes remaining, but Tiemoue Bakayoko headed home to have the final word.

"I respect him a lot and I can say it is [always] quite hard to play his teams". A win for City would give them a four point cushion, maintain their game in hand and make it exceptionally hard for the reds to overtake them in the final 9 games of the season.

"It is hard to play against City and not concede but we are the best attacking side in the world and I told my players if they scored three goals they would qualify".

Additionally, both Arsenal and Manchester United, who have played two games less could overtake Liverpool after they complete their matches.

With 10 games left to play, the Merseysiders find themselves in the midst of tussle for the top four.

"When you are going to play the "eighth-finals" of the Champions League in Monaco, just the desire to be in the quarter-finals will put our little exhausted situation away".

Dutch will 'pay price' for expelling minister
He later added "I am tell all Turks in the Netherlands that agree with Erdogan: GO to Turkey and NEVER come back!". The upshot may be to re-energize Wilders's campaign just as it appeared to be fading.

However, their recovery faces a massive test this weekend when they head to top four rivals Manchester City. We weren't there. We wanted to show personality, not to let them think, but they could pass and pass the ball.

"It'd be my first time if we do get there, so I'm raring to go and so is the team". Maybe there are easier jobs out there but it is really good.

Liverpool's slump since the turn of the year may have dashed hopes of silverware but Klopp felt qualification for next season's Champions League would represent "an outstanding success". We cannot change this but we will be there and I'm more interested in the mood we go there in, what can we do there.

Guardiola said: "I am happy with the squad".

"We would've liked to score more goals, but I'm delighted to be in Wembley for the semi-finals". So I thought it makes sense to see it as a real opportunity and not pushing some special pressure on it.

"It's impossible. We will try and improve the team but it's impossible (to do that much) with the way the transfer market is". Mane is quick and always lively, if we can isolate him, that is half the battle with their attack.

English teams have failed to impress in European competitions in recent years, with Chelsea being the last team to win the Champions League and the Europa League in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
