Keystone XL is no done deal

The proposed pipeline is created to connect Alberta, Canada, to refineries in the U.S.in Texas and Louisiana by way of Steele City, Nebraska. The memo also instructed the State Department, now led by former Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson, to review the application.

Although the State Department noted the economic impact in its decision, the project will result in only 35 permanent jobs after initial construction.

"Moving forward exclusively on the basis of an objectively outdated environmental review on a pipeline that doesn't have a full route does pose a lot of problem for the legality of the approval", said Anthony Swift, an lawyer with the Natural Resources Defense Council.

However, a White House spokeswoman stated that Trump's "buy American" rules do not apply to the Keystone pipeline.

Some 830,000 daily barrels of raw synthetic and bituminous oil will flow along this 1,400-kilometer pipeline from the Canadian province of Alberto to the U.S. state of Nebraska, and from there the oil will transported to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico through existing lines.

In the long run the pipeline will have a positive ripple effect for oil production.

Thune also said constituents in his home county, Jones County, are all for the project.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Southampton to cut gap at the top
It was a great chance and would prove a costly miss for the visitors as just past the half-hour mark and Tottenham won a penalty. Spurs have only once had a better overall record at this stage of a top-flight campaign - in their title-winning 1960-61 season.

Financial institutions investing in the DAPL such as Wells Fargo have become a target among those protesting the project - the DAPL, like Keystone, is opposed by environmentalists and Indian tribes that worry the project could poison Standing Rock Sioux's water supply.

The State Department was formally responsible for the permit TransCanada was given to construct a line that crosses the USA border.

Those critical of the decision, however, have said it's possible other countries will look at the USA taking climate change action less seriously and reduce their own ambitions. But he said there are other important projects like the recently approved TransMountain pipeline that will allow for exports to Asia. He says that he believes anti-fossil fuel groups funded the opposition to the pipeline, though he doesn't name any particular organizations. Trump has a history about refusing to pay people for work he is unhappy with. Under the order, the projects should begin construction within 60 days - a period which ends on Monday.

In a video on the company website, Girling said the pipeline is needed because North America needs oil so badly that it will continue to import crude "for years to come".

Barack Obama left TransCanada dangling for most of his administration, then rejected a permit for the Keystone pipeline in November of 2015. The company also said it was dropping a suit against the USA government under Chapter 11 of NAFTA, an investor-state dispute settlement mechanism that allows companies to sue foreign governments and bypass local courts in disputes. Upon learning that TransCanada is awaiting approval from permits for construction in Nebraska, Trump chimed in that Republican governor Pete Ricketts is "a fantastic governor, I'll call him today". "You should ask for the hundreds of millions of dollars back that you paid them because they didn't do a damn thing except get you a no vote", he said.

Already, the White House has retreated from a demand that the builders of the pipeline use American steel - a provision that Trump announced with considerable fanfare.
