What To Expect From Facebook's Q4 Earnings

Facebook reported fourth quarter earnings and revenue Wednesday that topped estimates across the board.

Mark Zuckerberg's social media giant recently posted a strong quarterly revenue report, with growth amounting to 51% compared to the year before.

Mobile ad revenue accounted for 84 percent of company's total advertising revenue of $8.63 billion in the fourth quarter ended December 31, compared with 80 percent a year earlier.

"Our mission to connect the world is more important now than ever", said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO. He explained that "we're focusing on shorter form content to start", and that the company needs to build a sustainable ad revenue sharing business model to pay professional creators to bring that content to Facebook, Tech Crunch reported.

Total daily active users climbed 18 percent year-over-year to 1.23 billion, and mobile daily active users jumped 23 percent to 1.15 billion. That said, Facebook's user growth is slowing down in the USA and Canada as the company only added 2 million daily and monthly users in their fourth quarter. Profits more than doubled from a year ago, to $3.6 billion, or $1.21 a share. This platform accounted for 84 percent of the total revenue and includes sales from Apple's suite of apps such as Instagram and the social media's own video platform.

$27.638 billion in total revenue, a 54.2% increase from $17.928 billion in the same period a year ago.

By 6 a.m., a duty manager told KPIX that about 60 protesters had gathered in the arrival area of the worldwide terminal. A Twitter user posted details about all the current protests and the ones planned across the U.S.in the next few days.

Despite the impressive earnings, Facebook experienced its share of turbulence, during the fourth quarter.

Facebook hasn't hit 2 billion users per month, but it's getting pretty damn close. The present user base of Facebook stood at 1.86 billion monthly users.

Shares rose $3.08, or 2.3 percent, to $136.31 in after-hours trading.

The reason: Facebook has almost saturated the number of ads it can put in front of users.

Our biggest focus continues to be putting video first across our family of apps.

Facebook has been adding features to attract more users and retain those already on the network, with a feature to tackle fake news posts being the most recent addition, after the criticism that followed the U.S. election on November 8.
