First Tomb Raider movie pics show the new Lara Croft

There's a new Lara Croft in town!

The Swedish actress is playing Lara Croft in a reboot of the film series based on the video game of the same name.

The images, obtained by paparazzi camped out near the film's South Africa set, show Vikander shooting what looks like an intense action sequence atop a metal beam. But of course, they are making a new one, and this time around it's Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.

Good luck landing jumps, climbing mountains and running up things (or away from things) with those.

Kilauea Lava Continues Its Fiery March To The Sea
The lava stream is perched high on a cliff and causes explosions as the molten rock flows into the ocean. The USGS website states Kilauea, "will surely continue to erupt through the rest of human history".

The Tomb Raider symbol is wild and the Lara symbol is a scatter.

Dominic West has already been cast as Lara's dead dad though, with Walton Goggins the villain and Daniel Wu as a friendly ship captain. Production began last month (January). It looks like Vikander will be doing some of her own stunts during filming.

To find out more and to check out the sights and sounds of Tomb Raider, watch our video review.

Alicia Vikander is brunette and badass! Vikander could definitely pass for younger, so I doubt that will be an issue for her, and we know from her performances in movies like Ex Machina that she's got the acting chops for the role. After Angelina Jolie who starred from the two films in early 2000s, Warner Bros has recently turned its franchise over to Vikander, to play the adventure of Croft. The latter of which came out in 2003, which means it has been more than a decade since we've had a Lara Croft film.
