Korea likely built 2 ICBMs, placed on mobile launcher pad: Yonhap

In his new year's speech the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, boasted a test launch would happen soon and state media has said a launch could come at any time.

North Korea has probably built two road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missiles (IBCM), South Korea's Yonhap news agency said on Thursday, citing military and diplomatic sources from South Korea and the United States.

At a press conference Thursday, Roh Jae-cheon, a spokesman for South Korea's Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, declined to confirm the reports but said Seoul was monitoring North Korea's ICBM development.

Two North Korea intercontinental ballistic missiles have been recently detected, and the projectiles appear to be a new model, according to Yonhap.

The new missiles are analyzed to be about 15 meters long, shorter than existing North Korean ICBMs - the KN-08 and its upgraded version KN-14. "But as we saw in 2016, there's certainly a variety of active missile programs underway in North Korea".

"It was different from a conventional Musudan missile in its length and shape", a military source reportedly told South Korean media, referring to the Musudan intermediate-range missile which Pyongyang tested in 2016.

Navas, who appeared to be out of position, did get a hand on Jovetic's effort but could not stop it from hitting the net. The game looked equally balanced until the 67th minute, when Sevilla keeper Sergio Rico fouled Dani Carvajal in the box.

"If they do something, it would more likely be a test of Trump than a test of a delivery system", said a US intelligence officer who monitors North Korean activities.

If North Korea does choose to launch an ICBM, it is likely to adjust the amount of fuel and engine power to control the missile range, limiting its distance to about 1,200-1,500 miles, according to the report.

"It's also possible that they are simply conducting field exercises with no plans to launch, or the option to launch if decided", said Pollack. The Chosun Ilbo reported that North Korea may be moving the missiles somewhere for assembly, rather than for a road-mobile test.

"ICBM rocket test launch preparation is in its last stage", Kim said, adding that North Korea "will continue to strengthen its ability based on nuclear might to mount a preemptive attack".

"We are at the point where an actual ICBM test is realistic", Scott Lafoy, a North Korean missile systems expert, told NK News.
